A gender-aware framework for the analysis of tourism development processes and tourismrelated activity is offered. The paper focuses on three crucial issues in the pursuit of such a framework. It is argued that, (1) tourism development processes and tourism-related activities are constructed out of gendered societies; (2) gender relations both inform, and are informed by the practices of all societies; and (3) power relations surrounding tourism development processes represent an extension of the politics of gender relations. It is concluded that an analysis of tourism-related activity can be enhanced by focusing on the dynamics of gender relations.
